You may have done enough to promote your website and you are getting lots of traffic. But still you may experience that you are not getting satisfactory business from your site. That means conversion of a hit to business is not happening satisfactorily. This is because your website visitors are not staying there for longer time. You should always keep in mind that the website is for your visitors not for you only. You need to develop website from their point of view.

You should give due consideration to the following points:

1) Give straight forward point of website

When the visitor comes to your website, home page is your first impression. So the home page should be professionally designed. It should appeal to the visitors to read website content. Then your website should be able to tell visitors, what it has for them in the following manner:

i. what it is all about
ii. what is there for them
iii. why should they get product/services from there
iv. what benefit they will get from there

Try to describe these points in very short and precise words. Otherwise people will not look for more information on the site.

2) Don’t show flash animation and pop ups

Some people like to have home page with a flash animation. Generally it takes some time to load. This is a bit annoying for visitors to wait for a web page to load. So, most of them will move on to some other site without actually viewing the home page. Moreover the pages containing flash animation are difficult to be indexed on most search engine. On some home pages people show pop up advertisement. That is really a annoying stuff for visitors. When people looking for something they are interested, they don’t want to see these pop ups advertisement.

3) Respect people’s time

Site owner should respect people’s time. Web surfers always want their information as quickly as possible. So the page should load in quickest possible time. Try to use less graphics and flash animation on your website. The home page of the site should not be more than 150 KB.

4) View pages in different browsers

Sometimes appearance of a page is different in different browsers. The appearance of a page should always be same in different browsers. You must test the site in different browsers like Internet Explorer, Netscape, FireFox, Opera.

5) Consistency

Professional websites always have navigational system very clean and consistent. Visitors must be able to move forward, backward and to any place from every page. Content of the page must be able to explain itself with suitable heading in consistent manner on all pages. Avoid javascript animation which moves on the page. It is considered as unprofessional website.
